Tips on how to get the best tasting coffee

Perhaps one of the most widely held misconceptions about how to achieve top-notch coffee freshness is that you should store your coffee in the refrigerator. However, coffee tends to absorb the aromas and flavors from your refrigerator instead. Storing it in your freezer isn't recommended either, unless you take more than several weeks to use your coffee. There are a few simple, better methods for keeping your coffee as fresh, aromatic and tastefully delicious as if you had just roasted and ground it yourself:

1. Buy quality, fresh coffee beans - don't be afraid to ask the seller when the coffee was roasted.

2. Grind only as much as you will use per pot - grinding the beans exposes the delicate oils that give coffee its delightful flavor.

3. Store your coffee properly - always use an airtight container that is clean and dry. Also, make sure you store the container in a cool, dry place.

Another important thing to remember so that you get the best tasting coffee possible is to make sure you use the right kind of water when making your coffee. As you may already realize, tap water can negatively influence the taste of your coffee because of chlorine and other contaminants. Either spring water or filtered water is best. However, you may not realize that some minerals actually contribute to the flavor of your coffee so it is preferable not to use distilled water when making your coffee.
