How to Clean Your Coffee Maker

You may not realize how important it is to keep your coffeemaker clean to ensure the best-tasting coffee from your drip coffee machine. Or perhaps you do know that you should regularly clean your coffeemaker, but you aren't sure how or you may even think that it will be too difficult and take too much time. We will show you just how simple and easy it really can be.

First you will need some white vinegar and bottled water (tap water is ok but it really is preferable to use bottled water if at all possible). Then fill the water tank of your coffee machine with a solution of 1 part water mixed with 1 part white vinegar.

Turn on your coffee machine and let this mixture percolate all the way through and then turn it off. Let the machine cool for 10-15 minutes. Once the pot has cooled down, empty the vinegar mixture and clean it throughly with a mild dish soap and then rinse, making sure the pot is completely clean and free of soap residue.

The vinegar mixture cleans the hard water deposits that build up on the inside of the machine. But it is important to make sure all the vinegar is gone from the insides so you don't ruin your next few rounds of coffee with a vinegar taste. To insure this, fill the water reservoir with plain water and turn the coffeemaker on once again as if making coffee. Turn off when the cycle is finished and once again let the pot cool down, then empty the pot.

To finish the process, fill the water reservoir one final time with water, run it through the complete cycle, turn off the machine and finally empty the pot and...you are finished!
