Melitta coffee makers
Many of you may not be aware that Melitta is a company founded in Germany back in 1908. The company was founded by Melitta Bentz from Dresden, Germany. She came up with the clever idea of removing the coffee grounds from cups by covering over the brass pot/ cup with a blotting paper sheet and drilling a hole through the pot's base. The idea was to place the ground coffee into the pot and add boiling water in the pot. This helped to improve the coffee taste as well as removed the coffee sediments resulting in a smooth coffee taste.Within two years of this invention, in the year 1910, this coffee filter system won gold and silver medals at the International Hygiene Exhibition in Dresden. Melitta's well known red and green color filter pack originates back from 1925 when the company introduced this feature to distinguish itself from its competitors as well as to protect its products from imitation. Melitta started producing coffee in 1962 at the company's headquaters in Minden, Germany where the coffee was ground and vacuum-packed.
Coffee machines took a big step in development in the 1960s when Melitta introduced its first electric coffee maker.
In 1979 Melitta came up with a coffee machine by the name of "Aromaboy", which for that time was one of the first coffee machines to brew a small quantity of coffee, hence making the machine relatively portable. This machine is still in demand even today. Eight years later, in 1987, Melitta introduced significant improvements in its coffee maker models by introducing various new features such as removable hotplate, automatic drip stopper, external water level display etc. "Aroma Therm Plus" was the first coffee maker which came with an insulated pot in 1989. Over the years, with increasing popularity and demand, Melitta introduced various coffees in their product line including flavored Cappuccinos.
Although Melitta originates from Germany, its headquarters lies in Toronto, Canada.
